Publication Conditions
The Journal of the History of Music and Dance of Asia and North Africa® is a free, biannual academic journal dedicated to research on dance and music from Asia and North Africa. Its aim is to contribute to the production and dissemination of rigorous knowledge by integrating research, teacher training, and cultural outreach.
The Journal is open access: content is available from the time of publication, and there are no submission, peer review, or publication fees. The call for submissions is open to external researchers, faculty, artist-researchers, and specialists in related disciplines (history, anthropology, psychology, sociology, cultural studies, musicology, dance, and performing arts). Priority is given to original works with explicit methodology and up-to-date bibliographies. Contributions in Spanish are welcome, and where appropriate, translation strategies will be considered to broaden access.
Submission of Manuscripts
The Journal accepts original manuscripts on an ongoing basis. Once approved by the Editorial Committee and External Peer Review, manuscripts are scheduled for publication according to the thematic organization of the issues. Manuscripts may be submitted electronically to asiafestival@estudiosahar.com.
If any part of the article’s content has been previously presented at a scientific meeting, the details of that meeting must be included. In all cases, the final work must be original.
When necessary, the individuals, centers, or entities that collaborated on or supported the work should be cited. The authors are responsible for obtaining the necessary permission from the cited individuals or entities.
The following are exclusionary criteria for document acceptance:
-The topic does not fall within the journal’s scope.
-It does not use the American Psychological Association (APA) 7th Edition citation style.
It is not submitted in the required format (Microsoft Word).
Ethical Principles
- The Editorial Committee is committed to providing clear information about the entire editorial process: the assessment of relevance, the results of peer review, and the criteria used. Furthermore, the Committee will always keep the Committee informed of the status of submitted works under consideration for publication in the Journal of the History of Music and Dance of Asia and North Africa®.
- Privacy Statement: The Editorial Committee will not disclose the identity of authors, reviewers, or potential evaluators, nor any data arising from an article submitted to the Journal of the History of Music and Dance of Asia and North Africa®, prior to its publication. Likewise, it will not disseminate any information regarding the content of articles that have not been selected for publication.
- The Editorial Committee has the power to decide what is published in the Journal of the History of Music and Dance of Asia and North Africa®, evaluating its originality and importance for broader academic dissemination. Furthermore, if necessary, the Editorial Committee may make corrections, clarifications, and apologies. It is expressly stated that the opinions of the authors are their sole responsibility.
- Obligations: The author(s) are responsible for ensuring that the submission has not been previously published or simultaneously submitted to another journal (or an explanation has been provided in the Comments to the Editor). The author(s) must verify that the text complies with the bibliographic and stylistic requirements indicated in this section. The author(s) must confirm that the work submitted for evaluation complies with the established ethical standards for the Social Sciences and Humanities. Reviewers must report any instances of plagiarism detected in the works they evaluate. They must also maintain confidentiality regarding the reviewed articles. If a work is rejected, the reviewers must provide a justification for this decision. Reviewers must recuse themselves in case of conflicts of interest.
Policies Regarding Plagiarism
Plagiarism includes: presenting someone else’s work as your own; adopting words or ideas from other authors without proper attribution; failing to use quotation marks in a direct quote; providing incorrect information about the true source of a quote; paraphrasing a source without citing it; and excessive paraphrasing, even with citation.
The general forms of scientific fraud are as follows: a) fabrication, falsification, or omission of data and plagiarism; b) duplicate publication; and c) authorship disputes. Any dishonest practices related to plagiarism and other forms of scientific fraud that are detected will be discussed by the members of the Editorial Committee, who will decide on the measures to be taken. The author(s) will assume any and all consequences arising from non-compliance with the obligations set forth in these editorial guidelines.
All articles will be submitted for plagiarism detection using the Plag.es system. When plagiarism is detected, either partially or completely, the Editorial Committee will follow the procedures outlined below:
-The author will be sent evidence of the detected plagiarism and asked to provide an explanation.
-If the response is not satisfactory to the Editorial Committee, the article will not be submitted for peer review, and the journal will not accept further articles from the authors. If applicable, the publication of the original plagiarized article will be notified.
-No further submissions from the authors will be accepted by the Journal of the History of Music and Dance of Asia and North Africa®.
Submission Guidelines
The paper should begin with the title in its original language, in bold, CAPITAL LETTERS, and left-aligned.
Below, include the name(s) of the author(s), institutional affiliation, and email address. Example:

The minimum length required for articles is 4 pages, with a maximum of 10 pages (A4) or 4,000 words (excluding title, abstract, references, and appendices), using Arial font, 12-point size, justified text, 1.5-spaced, and numbered pages.
All articles must include an abstract in both Spanish and English. The maximum length is 200 words, and no abbreviations or bibliographic references should be included. At the end of the abstract, a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 keywords should be added.
The inclusion of an introduction and a final conclusion is optional. At the end of the text, the listed footnotes, references, tables, or images should be included as necessary. The bibliography should be presented at the end of the article in alphabetical order and formatted according to APA style.
Manuscripts must be submitted electronically in Microsoft Word format, without any identifying author information, including the abstract and references. Any author identification information within the text will automatically invalidate the submission. The email should include a brief description of the manuscript (e.g., topic, methodology, number of pages, tables, figures, and graphs).
Editorial Review Process
Correspondence with authors is conducted via email.
First, articles are evaluated by the Editorial Committee based on their relevance to the proposed theme. The Committee may directly reject submitted works without external consultation if it deems them inappropriate for the journal due to a lack of the required quality level, failure to address the call for papers, non-compliance with the journal’s guidelines, or evidence of fraud.
Once this stage is completed, articles are submitted to External Peer Review, specifically formed for this theme, and are evaluated using a double-blind review system. This means that reviewers will not know the author’s name, and vice versa. Reviewers will not be affiliated with the same institution as the article’s author.
Reviewers assess the quality of the works based on their conceptual rigor, academic relevance, originality, and clarity of presentation.
The final decision may be:
- Approved, without objection. In this case, it will be submitted for copyediting before final publication in the journal.
- Approved, subject to modifications regarding writing style or bibliography, requests for clarification, or observations that the reviewers deem pertinent. In this case, the authors will be given a specific timeframe to make the necessary corrections. If the authors have not made the required corrections or provided the necessary clarifications by the deadline, the article will not be published in this issue. If the authors make the necessary changes, the article will be returned for copyediting. Once the final version is approved, it will be submitted for copyediting and published. If the reviewers determine that the necessary changes have not been made, the article will not be published. This decision is final.
- Not approved when it does not meet the minimum standards (in terms of theoretical rigor or has serious writing deficiencies). In this case, the article will not be published in that issue. The reviewers’ decision is final.
In the event of differing opinions among the reviewers, the Editorial Committee will review them and make a decision. This decision will be final.
The reviewers will consider both the formal presentation of the manuscript (clarity and precision in the article’s writing; structure of the work and adequacy of the bibliographic references) and the quality of the content (expository coherence; adequate analysis and justification; conceptual rigor and precision; logical presentation of content; contributions to university outreach; and relevance and currency of the bibliography). Selected articles will be made available in digital format, at the discretion of the Editorial Committee.
The Journal of the History of Music and Dance of Asia and North Africa® is not responsible for unpublished works.
Proofreading
The designated author will receive proofs via email when the article goes to press. These proofs must be returned corrected within 72 hours. The purpose of these proofs is to detect typographical, spelling, or formatting errors. Corrections that affect the content or alter the article’s original meaning will not be accepted.
Upon publication, the journal allows authors to self-archive their corrected post-print version of their published articles in institutional or thematic repositories, or on their personal websites.
